Laser Hair Removal
Want a clean, low-fuss back for shirt-off season? Here is the prep and aftercare plan that makes back laser sessions work better, feel easier, and recover faster.
Why men’s backs need a plan, not guesswork
Back hair is usually denser and coarser, and the area is broad. That means more follicles to target and more sweat, friction and backpack straps irritating the skin. A smart routine helps the laser reach the root, reduces ingrowns and keeps workouts and workdays on track.
Many men notice lighter, slower regrowth after a few sessions when the basics are done right. For a focused approach that maps the full back and shoulders, see our back laser service at learn more 💗
Smart prep: 7 days to session day
Show up with calm, clean skin so the laser can do its job.
- 4 weeks out: stop waxing, plucking or depilatory creams. Shaving only. The laser needs the root intact.
- 2 weeks out: avoid sunbeds and sunbathing. No self-tan on the back. A tan competes with the laser and can irritate skin.
- 7 days out: pause strong actives on the back, like retinoids, AHA/BHA body lotions and scrubby brushes.
- 48-24 hours before: shave the whole treatment area close to the skin. No stubble longer than a few millimetres.
- The night before: cleanse the back and skip thick body creams or oils.
- On the day: arrive with clean, product-free skin. Bring a loose cotton T-shirt to change into post-session.
- Meds check: some antibiotics and acne meds are photosensitising. Share your current meds and any skin conditions. If you have active acne, recent sunburn, new moles or tattoos on the back, get tailored advice at book a consultation.
- Training: plan your heavy workouts for the day before, not after. Heat and sweat can aggravate freshly treated skin.
Tip: If you often get back acne or ingrowns, mention it in your consultation. Settings and spacing can be adjusted to help keep flare-ups down.
Aftercare that keeps results on track
You can usually get back to normal quickly with a few simple rules.
- First 24-48 hours:
- Keep it cool and dry: lukewarm showers only, no hot baths, steam rooms or saunas.
- Skip workouts, swimming and tight kit. Friction and sweat can trigger bumps.
- Use a light, fragrance-free gel or cream. Aloe or a post-laser gel works well. A cool pack wrapped in cloth can ease warmth.
- Sun protection:
- Avoid sun on your back for at least a week. If your back will be exposed, use SPF 50 and reapply. Clothing coverage is even better.
- Clothing:
- Wear loose cotton. Swap backpacks for a hand carry if you can for 1-2 days to reduce rubbing on shoulder blades.
- Ingrown prevention:
- Do not pick. From day 5-7, introduce gentle exfoliation 2-3 times a week, like a mild AHA/BHA body wash or a soft cloth. Keep it light.
- What is normal:
- Mild redness and small goosebump-like dots around follicles can last a few hours to a day or two.
- What is not:
- Intense swelling, blisters, or redness that lasts beyond 72 hours. Get in touch with your practitioner promptly.
Between sessions, stick to shaving only and keep skin calm. Consistency matters: spacing sessions as advised helps target follicles through different growth phases for longer gaps between regrowth.
Thinking about holidays or an event? Book sessions so the last treatment is at least a week before travel and keep the area out of strong sun. Good timing means smoother skin with fewer compromises 💗
